One of the main cupboard staples in this house are nut butters. I’ve given them to both the babies from about 6 1/2 months old on toast, in porridge, and with fruit. It’s a wonderful way of getting protein into the little ones and giving them the taste of nuts without giving them the whole nus which is not recommended until later. However, if you’re trying to live on a budget buying premium, sugar free nut butters can be pretty expensive. My local supermarket sells Almond butter at €5.99 for 170gs. The way my two go through it, I would very quickly find myself in debt. So I tried making my own. Guys, let me tell you this is so so simple! We made around 350gs for around €3.80, which is a significant saving. You can make nut butter with any nut you like. Our favorites in this house are cashew nut, hazelnut and almond butter.
All you need is your nuts, an oven and a blender. I laid out the almonds on a baking tray and roasted them at 170.C for 10 to 15 mins. Once out if the oven I popped them straight into my blender and blended them on full power for around 5-7 mins. You need to wait until the oils start to release and turn the mixture from grainy to smooth and oily. Store in an airtight container in the fridge. This will be fine in the fridge for weeks, if it lasts that long!
Hope you guys enjoy. I’m off to sort the most insane mountain of laundry EVER! Tell me, how do two tiny human beings go through so many clothes?
Bye for now!
On a completely off topic side note, my lovely friend Lizzie nominated me for the Her.ie blog awards, and I have been shortlisted! If you wouldn’t mind throwing a vote my way it would be greatly appreciated!😊 You can vote here!
