Back with another Christmas themed recipe. This one is really quick and easy and great for little hands! We used pesto and grated cheese for the filling but you can use whatever takes your fancy. I’m thinking of trying a Christmas filling with turkey and stuffing with leftovers from Christmas day. Yum!
What you will need for this recipe:
1 Sheet of puff pastry
A handful of cheese
1-2 tablespoons of fresh pesto
1 egg (for egg wash)
Preheat the oven to 180.C. Take your pastry out of the fridge and allow to warm to room temperature for 15 mins. Line a baking tray and prepare your filling ingredients.
Once pastry has softened roll out and cut in half. Score the pastry into a christmas tree shape, be careful not to cut right through the pastry. Then cut out strips on either side (as shown above). Add your fillings to centre of pastry.
Now start from the top and bring the strips across the pastry, alternating from left to right. Work your way down the pastry until you are about 3/4 of the way down. At this point flip up the pastry on either side of the base of the christmas tree. Continue on alternating the strips until you reach the bottom. Whisk up your egg and brush all over the outside of the pastry. Pop into the oven for 15-25 mins until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly and serve.
