Baby and toddler breakfast ideas.

I’m not an uptight mom by nature (well I don’t think I am!) but the one thing I am very picky about is what the babies eat. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind them having the odd treat but I like their daily diet to consist of healthy, unprocessed, fresh food. However, sometimes I just don’t have the inspiration or the energy to think of healthy fun meals for them. I’ve found that by having a rough meal plan for the week, it helps me to always have healthy food on the go for them. So I’m going to give you an idea of what they eat for breakfast in a typical week. We follow baby led weaning (blw) so for the most part, Baby I eats the same as the rest of us with minor tweaks to make them suitable for her! So here goes.


I see Mondays like a clean fresh slate, upon which you can improve upon the previous weeks parenting fails, and I fail a lot! So to start the week off, we had wholewheat bread toasted and cut into a fish shape with a cookie cutter topped with cashew nut butter. Natural yogurt with chia seeds and some fresh fruit, a beetroot smoothie with mixed berries and infant probiotic. We use the Udo’s choice infant probiotic powder. The owl is made from grapefruit, orange segments, blueberries and bananas.



Tuesday we had wholewheat toast in the shape of a bear with banana and blueberry. Some grapefruit pieces and chia seed breakfast bowl. To make the breakfast bowl I mixed 1/4 cup of chia seeds, 1 cup of milk( any milk is fine), 1 cup of natural yogurt, 1/2 cup of coconut shavings, 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract and 1tbsp of honey/maple syrup. Mix all in a bowl and pop into containers and into the fridge. In the morning you can add warm milk, berries, nuts, seeds or whatever you fancy.



Wednesday we had wholewheat bear toast, berries and natural yogurt with chia seeds and porridge. Baby I had porridge fingers and L had regular porridge with honey, cinnamon, chia seeds and bananas. We also had a green smoothie which had spinach, parsley, kiwi, orange, Ice, grapefruit and grapes.



imageThursday we had natural yogurt with chia and berries and wholewheat minion toast! Baby I had porridge fingers with cashew nut butter, half a banana and strawberries. She also had some green smoothie on pre loaded spoons. Smoothie recipe same as above!





TGIF! Today we had cinnamon French toast rockets! I just made up my simple French toast recipe added some cinnamon and used wholewheat bread. I cooked the toast and cut the rockets out using cookie cutters!  L had honey on his and baby I had them plain.We also had berries and natural yogurt mixed with some raspberries and blackberries.


Baby I had hers in the shape of aeroplanes, just because!



Nearly there now! This morning we had drop scones. For those of you who have never had drop scones, these are like a sweet pancake. The normal recipe calls for sugar but I substitute that for puréed Apple. This recipe is simply 1 cup of self raising flour, 1/4 cup of stewed Apple, 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, 1 egg and a little milk to bring to the desired texture. Cool on a pan over medium heat until brown on either side. I used star shape cookie cutters to cut out shapes once cooked. As usual L had these with a little honey on top and some berries and baby I had them plain.

  1. Orlaith I reaĺly enjoyed reading these breakfast ideas. Am looking forward to trying some of them. What age is Baby I? Do you do anything with the berries to make them safer?


    1. Thanks Maria!Baby I is 7, nearly 8 months. Actually come to think of it, she turns 8 months tomorrow! The blackberries and raspberries just go to mush in her hands. I don’t give her grapes just yet. I give her strawberries halved and just watch her carefully with them, but she always manages just fine!
